- Syracuse Bicycle accepts most e-mobility batteries. Call (315) 446-6816 to confirm if they’ll accept the battery you have before dropping it off. (Syracuse Bicycle is located at 2540 Erie Blvd. E., Syracuse, NY 13224).
- Many e-mobility battery manufacturers accept their batteries for recycling. Find out if your manufacturer has a takeback program and contact them directly for instructions on proper battery management.
- Most e-mobility batteries are “dry” lithium-ion batteries. They are not sealed lead acid batteries like those found in cars or toy vehicles such as Power Wheels. If you have a “dry” e-mobility battery, make an appointment for OCRRA’s Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off program.Be sure to bring your e-mobility battery and any other household toxics to your appointment. Bringing material in bulk helps OCRRA continue this service at no cost, as OCRRA is charged a flat fee by our vendor regardless of the amount of material you bring. Thank you!
#2 - Dispose
E-mobility batteries (batteries used in hoverboards as well as electric scooters and bikes) should never go in the curbside trash or recycling. Putting these items in the trash or recycling can potentially lead to dangerous fires that could harm solid waste workers and damage machinery and equipment.
