Donate old clothes/textiles!
Textiles such as clothing, linens, and blankets cannot go in the recycling bin as they wind around the sorting machinery and contaminate other recyclables. They should be brought to donation centers instead.
#1 - Reuse
1) Click here for a list of locations that accept clothing, linens, blankets, drapes, towels, stuffed animals, footwear, belts, hats, handbags, gloves and other accessories for reuse and recycling – year-round.
The majority of donation centers listed on the link above accept wearable clothing only. They do not accept items that you would not wear yourself, or that have rips, stains, or are scraps of fabric, etc. They must be clean and dry.
The Rescue Mission, however, will take items that are ripped, stained, missing buttons, or are an incomplete pair (like socks); they sell these items to companies that repurpose them into industrial wiping rags or insulation. All items dropped off at the Rescue Mission must be washed and dry; please drop off wearable clothing in separate bags or boxes from unwearable clothing. This helps the Rescue Mission sort them properly.
2) Gently used blankets, towels and comforters (NO sheets or pillows): CNY SPCA, (315) 454-4479 or Humane Association of CNY, (315) 457-8762.
#2 - Dispose
If wet or contaminated (for example: grease, mildew, odors), please place in trash.
These items can also be taken to OCRRA’s Rock Cut Road Drop-Off Site.
